  1. Listened to it. I had been dissapointed we had not heard more from her through the renewal battle. Now I understand the silence. It is a good listen though. I was shocked that the interviewer cut it short when she seemed like she still had more to say…. thats what a DVR is for. I wouldn’t pass on an opportunity to speak to our girl Yvonne a little longer!

  2. Just to let you know this is not the first pod cast she was on, she was interviewed on the first chuckpodcast.

  3. Whoops. That’s fixed. Thanks.

  4. Yvonne was awesome as always, no shocker there. I was a bit surprised too that she was cut short. I understand that CHUCK was airing, but there are other times and ways to watch the show, whereas chatting with Yvonne is not such a normal occurrence. If it had been up to me, I would’ve just sacrificed the beginning of the episode to continue the talk with Yvonne and let her finish what she had to say. And afterwards, I can catch up on whatever parts of the show I missed online or whatnot.

It’s been a while since I listened to the first podcast, and can’t really remember it clearly, but it was amazing of course. Like the typical American, I am fascinated with hearing different accents, so it’s always sweet to hear her speak.

  5. I cant understand how the interviewer could just cut Yvonne off like that! In search of better words…RUDE! But Yvonne was nice as always, Hollywood has not turned her into a diva and she still seems to be very “down to earth”.
And YES, her accent is to die for, despite the fact that here in Sweden we are not so fascinated by different accents as americans seems to be…I just love it!
Thanks for the post Lykaon! I would probably have missed this interview otherwise.

  7. In my defense, I did write this post about a week ago. ChuckPodCast was down for maintenance for almost an entire week.

I’m not sure how it took them that long; we’ve been able to move Strahotski twice now and it wasn’t nearly that long with the downtime (even when we were having all the server issues).

But I posted it now, and not everyone is a forum troll. ;)

  8. I have to agree with those above, he cut it short, yes I understood it was because the finale was on, but dude youre talking to one of the shows STARS …. oh my god let your buddies in and tape the damn episode, so you can catch up on the parts you missed LOL!

I thought she was great! And would laugh if we get to see a pic of her at the subway (doubt it) none the less its nice to hear that alls going well, well apart from the phone eh!

  9. yeah haha I thought it was funny too when I first heard it and I thought I was the only one to notice.. but hahaha.. He Hung up on Yvonne! Oh gosh… lol I’m sure many of you guys out there dream of getting her number… lmao.. and he hangs up on her.
I guess she’ll understand though that he’s an extremely dedicated fan of the show =)
I did wish he would ask her something more amusing though… like how was the extended make out scene with Zachary Levi in Chuck vs the Colonel.. lolz. :p

  11. The person who interviewed Yvonne talks way too much. He should’ve let her talk more. I’m getting annoyed how she gets interrupted all the time in the show and during these interviews. Let the lady talk! Also he doesn’t seem that prepared for that interview, no interesting questions asked.

    Comment by Nadine — May 11, 2009 @ 5:59 pm

  12. I agree with Nadine. I think the interviewer cut it the chat off early because he wasn’t well prepared. Also he demonstrated lack of experience by making himself the subject of the interview instead of her. Some pros do this too though. Its very annoying.

    Comment by tylerp — May 12, 2009 @ 11:54 am

  13. Hi all,

please hold your horses and let me address what you’re saying!

    1. Rude to cut her short, why not go longer

    - A-list actors like Yvonne commit to time blocks for interviews. If they give you 10 minutes, it is 600 seconds and not 601, unless they are gracious enough to extend it. Like the other rally podcast interviews, my interview with Yvonne had been scheduled as 5 to 10 minutes, and was already pushing 20 minutes — it would have stopped at that time anyway. To put it another way, it is rude to push longer when the interview is already double the committed length.

Also, you didn’t hear all of the discussion. In the part that was edited out, Yvonne said I absolutely had to see the finale, and wouldn’t let me sway her.

Plus, I had a big crowd of people coming over, and I live in an apartment building, where the phone would have kept ringing with confused guests trying to buzz up. How rude would it have been to Yvonne to A) let the phone continue to ring, B) take a break while I answered the phone and buzzed people up, or C) take a break while I went around the house turning the phones off — all while going very long on the interview already?

If you think she must be offended, rest assured she’s not. We’ve been emailing back and forth this week and she hasn’t mentioned it.

    2. RE: server down

My server was not down for a whole week. However, it was veeeerrry slow for a few days until I had the time to upgrade the server. We went from 15,000 listeners per month to 70,000 in 3 days when the rally podcast came out. Plus, at the time I experienced a major crash on my home editing system, with 3 terabytes of lost data, including all of my podcast and website files. It took me 3 days just to get all of the data restored, and the only way to do that was to build a new computer that had enough storage space to hold the 3 TB of recovery data. All this happened while I was supposed to be prepping my home system with new software for a huge contract starting 3 days later, and also getting ready for my CNN interview, and recording, editing, and releasing the 021 podcast.

On top of all that, I do have a day job and a family to take care of at the same time.

Oh, and the new server costs $650 / year, propelling the costs for this podcast to over $1000 so far, when I don’t receive a cent for it, despite putting in hundreds of hours of my time.

    3. RE: Interview prep & interviewing ability

All of my interview prep had been for the rally podcast, which aired before the finale. I had not heard from Yvonne at all during this time, until 20 minutes before the finale. I had 2 choices:

    A) Do not do an interview at all. This was my only window before she started shooting her new film.

    B) Do the interview, despite knowing that all my existing prep was out the window and I had zero time to come up with questions. I’d like to see how you would do if Yvonne called you unexpectedly in these circumstances!

I urge you to listen to the other podcasts on our site before making judgments on our interviewing ability. And I would remind you that we are NOT pros, and do not get paid for this.

Overall — can you please give a guy a break??

    - Gray.

  14. Alright, my apologies… Thanks for all the efforts. please keep sending all the interesting podcasts our way. Maybe you could add a PayPal donation to the Podcast site. People might’ve taken free stuffs for granted these days. I noticed the Wikipedia site has a “Donate” link these days.

    Comment by Nadine — May 12, 2009 @ 1:44 pm

  15. Hi Nadine,

Thanks for understanding. And that’s a great idea about the PayPal donations! I’ve been racking my brains trying to figure out how to recoup costs, because ordinary per-click advertising that most fan sites run off of don’t work very well for me — most people just find the podcast on iTunes and don’t actually come to the web site. PayPal donations would let me tap into the listenership, no matter how they obtained the podcast.

    Thanks,
    Gray.

  16. I just want to say,

Thanks Gray Jones for all the podcast and the great job, and don’t worry, 10 minutes of interview is way better than no interview at all, i promise i’m going to stop downloading it via itunes instead of your site.

Finally want to say you have not idea how much i envy you and your constant communication with her, you are a lucky man.

    Comment by J — May 12, 2009 @ 6:23 pm

  17. Hi J,

Thanks! And no worries, iTunes is the same as visiting the site because I don’t have any per-click ads on the site. You don’t need to do one rather than the other.

Also, I wouldn’t go as far as to say I have constant communication with her — we’ve had a few emails back and forth because I did a small personal favor for her.

I do hope we can get her for a full interview again soon — our first interview with her was in our first ever podcast, and we’ve learned a lot since then about getting better phone quality.

    Cheers,
    Gray.

  18. Gray, I apologize on the rash comment made on my end as well, regarding how the interview ended. Thank you for taking the time to explain the situation to us. It puts my mind at ease to know that she wasn’t offended.

On the other hand, I also want to thank you for the wonderful podcasts. I have been a subscriber since the first one and sincerely appreciate all the information, news, and entertainment that it has brought us.

  19. I thought you did a great job, Gray. Thanks for your efforts in supporting “Chuck” and its cast, and I hope we see/hear more from you in the coming season.

  20. Hi,

thanks all for your kind comments! You will definitely be hearing more from us, and quite exciting stuff. Our rally podcast last week was only the beginning. Now that we have opened doors with so many new people, we will be locking in interviews with a lot of them over the next few months, starting with Bonita Friedericy (General Beckman) next week.

Over the summer, I expect we should be able to get all of the cast members who have not yet had full interviews on the podcast, including Ryan McPartlin, Josh Gomez, and Zac Levi. And yes, I’m hoping to get another full interview with Yvonne.

Now if NBC could just hurry up and give us the full season renewal we’ve been waiting for!

    Cheers,
    G.

  21. Hey Gray,

Thanks for stopping by. Don’t mind folks — they’re a rabid bunch when it comes to Yvonne Strahovski. :)

We’re all a little jealous that you get to talk to her at all!

I know how it is with the hosting. We don’t make any money here either. We tried a paypal donation box and we received a total of one donation over the course of a year.

Sorry if you felt attacked by the comments on the post; you certainly shouldn’t take it personally.

If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.

  22. Gray,

Thank you for the explanation and the outstanding job you do with the Chuck podcasts. The amount of information and professionalism in the podcasts are phenomenal. I would be willing to contribute to defraying your costs in running the operation if there is some option available.

  32. I just want to say that Gray has been a big part of some of the ‘Save Chuck’ campaigning these last few weeks and he is definitely a significant part of the reason that the show had a successful renewal campaign.

And of course Lykaon was another big time supporter for the letter writing campaign from the very start. Lykaon definitely got the word out early on.

So two webmasters that helped make a difference!!!!!!

  33. Hey Dave,

Thanks for the credit! It was a lot of hard work, but with much reward.

I’ll post here what I posted at ChuckTV.net:

    * * * *

    Chuck knows kung fu.

    What do we know?

That our work has only just begun!

Let’s flood the forum with our ideas on how we can get more people to watch Chuck and how we can find new ways to support Chuck’s advertisers and send the message to NBC.

Consider this goal: from 6 million current viewers to 10 million in 4 months… we can do it! But not without a LOT of work and commitment.

So let’s get started! And share your victory stories to inspire and motivate the other fans.

    Whoo hoo!

    Cheers,
    Gray.
