Yvonne on Last Call
Reader Judy alerted us to an indication that Yvonne Strahovski will be a guest on Last Call with Carson Daly this Thursday evening.
The Carson Daly calendar doesn’t yet list any of the guests for this week, but Carson has returned to filming despite the strike.
As faithful followers of Yvonne, we’ll be sure to TiVo the show and get the results up as quickly as we can! Expect video and screen captures to usher in an awesome weekend.
This hasn’t been confirmed from any definitive source as far as I can tell, so we’ll see how it shakes out.
Edit: It seems that the Carson Daly site has been updated with the official schedule, so this is a lock.

So, does this make Yvonne a scab? I assume she’ll have to cross a picket line in order to do the show.
Say it ain’t so!!!

Well, she’s not a writer. She’s can’t be considered ‘crossing the picket line’ since she’s not on strike.
The actors of Chuck have been filming episodes of Chuck since the strike began. There’s just no new writing of episodes going on.
Last Call has resumed filming. Unguilded writers are doing the writing for the show.

Will it be on on Weds Night/Thurs Morn or Thurs Night/Fri morn?

Since it’s not on the Carson Daly site, we can only guess. I assume it means Thurs/Fri.
I’ll be recording both, with an hour padding on each side just to be safe.

She probably doesn’t really have a choice. It’s part of her job to promote the show and if NBC tells her to do the Carson Daly show, she has to do it. She doesn’t have the clout of somebody like Steve Carell, who can just thumb his nose at them and suffer no consequences.

Actually, you don’t need to be in the same line of work or on strike yourself to cross a picket line. It’s a decision anyone can make to continue working with whatever management is currently at odds with those picketing…

I hate to see Yvonne cross the picket line, but I’d hate it more to see her lose her job. As an actress, she’s sure to be a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and she’s got to follow the advice of her own union. Which is this:
“Finally, and most importantly, we must support our fellow SAG members on every set even if they have to cross a picket line to get to work. They are simply following the advice of their union and honoring their contract. It is not reasonable to expect SAG cast members to risk the potentially enormous personal liability that may flow from refusing to work in the absence of a SAG strike. Please note, the WGA contract includes a similar “No Strike” clause and writers would be bound to the same rules as you are if another union were striking.” http://www.sag.org/sagWebApp/
I’m looking forward to her interview. The KTLA and Craig Ferguson ones were great!

That is awesome info, Jane. I won’t go into it here too much, but the whole strike is a complicated matter. It isn’t as simple as the oft-spouted “the writer’s want their share, and the studios are being greedy bastards.” It’s much more subtle than that.
It gets into politics, philosophy, and capitalism. It gets into numbers that none of us have, and feelings that none of us can understand.
We can’t really know which side is right and which side is wrong with the information available to us. It’s just not possible.
But the cold hard truth is that a lot of people who are worse off than the writers are losing jobs because of the strike (regardless of the blame).
These are people who do things like run the cameras for the Carson Daly show and prep the green room with cookies for the guests. These are people who have no fault in whatever war is being waged between the writers and the studios. They are innocent bystanders.
Those are the people that Yvonne is supporting by going on the show. Don’t forget that.
