Strahovski and Alma Maters

This week’s episode was titled “Chuck Versus the Alma Mater” and boy was it a lot of fun. I was sad to see that Yvonne got another episode without a lot of focus, but I quickly forgot as the plot clipped along and we found out about Chuck’s sordid past.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — Captain Awesome is awesome. I guess that doesn’t even need to be said since it’s in his name, but whatever.

That guy makes me laugh everytime he’s on screen. In this episode, we get to see him in his element surrounded by frat guys, throwing footballs at Chuck’s… manly parts.

I like how Casey is coming along as well. He seems to be getting more screen time.

I do wonder, however, why Chuck would go to Casey everytime he has problem rather than the smoking hot chick who’s in charge of ‘handling’ him. As awesome as Adam Baldwin is, I’d pick the hot chick everytime.

I really expected there to be a little bit more Sarah subplot for Yvonne Strahovski this week, given that the bulk of the plot centered around Bryce Larkin.

Sadly, she was relegated to the back burner while Chuck focused on his own issues with his ex-roommate.

Nonetheless, Yvonne did get into some pretty fun firefights this go ’round and that scene at the end where she watches the video with Chuck was extremely well acted.

When she walked out of the room with tears in her eyes, she makes the viewer believe that she was barely holding it together in there. That’s hard to do convincingly, and Strahovski did a fabulous job.

Next week is “Chuck Versus the Truth” and promises to be a riot, with a new girl eyeing Chuck. This week may be have been green week on NBC, but next week may be as well as Sarah gets jealous of Chuck’s new romantic interest.

Screen captures for “Chuck Versus the Alma Mater” should be up this afternoon.

I said something similar to my wife about what seemed to be a plot anomoly - why would Chuck go to Casey with a problem when Sarah is available to help him, she’s attractive and he has a crush on her.

I too continue to be impressed by Yvonne’s reactions to Zach, especially her facial expressions. They usually seem just right to me. Think about how hard this must be - Yvonne is an actress pretending to be a CIA agent who’s pretending to be just another Wienerlicious employee, who’s pretending not to know much about Bryce, who’s pretending to be Chuck’s girlfriend, but who is actually falling in love with Chuck but is pretending she’s not because it’s against CIA rules and it could get him hurt. All those layers of pretending require really good acting, especially considering that comedic timing is also required.

The way the actors play off each other, along with the writing, are what make this my favorite show. I can’t wait to see next week’s episode.

IMO this is the best show of the Fall lineup. It’s smart and witty, and the cast is well-rounded. Yvonne was fantastic and I think she’ll be getting more screentime in the coming episodes, especially since there’s a conflict of interest now.

Chuck obviously likes Sarah, and Sarah obviously likes Chuck but she can’t tell him. I love that little conflict with herself; it makes her relationship with Chuck so much more… tense, almost.

This series is shaping up VERY very well.

I love this show and I think that saying Yvonne is hot is an understatement. I agree that this is the best show of the fall. I have even said so on by blog. The acting is great and there is a real chemistry between Sarah and Chuck.

Does anyone know the ratings for the show last night? I can’t find them

  5. Lykaon says:

I don’t think they’ve been released yet. Maybe I should start catalogging them here.

  6. devonnewberry says:

That would help! I can never seem to find them.

Yea I would like to know how well the show is doing good or bad with the ratings cuz I don’t want it to be canceled =(

  8. Lykaon says:

Right now, we have to worry more about the writer’s strike than it being canceled. They only have a few episodes written and after that, no more Chuck until the strike ends.

Chuck hasn’t even been picked up for a full season yet.

  9. devonnewberry says:

It hasn’t!? Last I heard, it was doing pretty well. It had 9 million + viewers for the pilot, then dropped to 7 million + the next week, then rose to 8 million + the week after, then dropped back to 7 million + the week after that. It’s bipolar, but I hope it’s hear to stay! I’m gonna be pissed IF Chuck gets canceled and shit like Dancing with the Stars stays on the air.

  10. Lykaon says:

Indeed, it has been doing pretty well but not picked up for the season.

If the writer strikes continue, you’ll see a lot more shows like Dancing with the Stars because they don’t require scripts.

I think that Captain Awesome is awesome as well. I’ve started using awesome in my everday conversation as a tribute to him
